Producer and Import Price Index rose by 0.7% in August
Neuchâtel, 14.09.2026 — The Producer and Import Price Index rose in August 2026 by 0.7% compared with the previous month, reaching 100.4 points (December 2025 = 100). In particular, petroleum products, chemical products, and petroleum and natural gas saw higher prices. Compared with August 2025, the price level of the whole range of domestic and imported products fell by 0.7%. These are the results of the Federal Statistical Office (FSO).
In particular, higher prices for petroleum products and pharmaceutical preparations were responsible for the increase in the Producer Price Index compared with the previous month. Prices also rose for slaughter pigs, pork, raw milk, rubber and plastic products, as well as plastics in primary forms. In contrast, basic pharmaceutical products, other chemical products and electricity (for large-scale consumers) became cheaper.
Higher prices compared with July 2026 were recorded in the Import Price Index, particularly for petroleum products, organic products of the chemical industry and for petroleum and natural gas. Rising prices were also observed for plastics in primary forms, vegetables, melons and potatoes, rubber and plastic products, inorganic products of the chemical industry, other chemical products, paper and paper products, and green coffee. In contrast, falling prices were observed for computers.
