At its meeting on 13 November 2024, the Federal Council approved the strategic goals for the Federal Institute of Metrology METAS for the years 2025 to 2028.
The Federal Council expects METAS to continue to successfully meet the strategic challenges of a national metrology institute and to perform the corresponding tasks. It must create the conditions for measurements in Switzerland to be made with the accuracy required for the needs of business, research and administration. It must also ensure that the measurements necessary to protect people and the environment and to safeguard federal tasks are always carried out correctly and in accordance with the legal requirements. At least half of METAS's funding is self-financed.
In addition, the Federal Council expects METAS to provide targeted support for the innovation process and the competitiveness of the Swiss economy with expert knowledge and application-oriented research projects in collaboration with industrial partners. In the future, it should also digitise metrological services as far as possible and also advance their development for digitisation.
The human resources policy objectives state, among other things, that METAS is committed to training apprentices and that it will increase the proportion of women, particularly among scientific and technical staff, wherever possible.
The strategic goals for METAS are available in German, French or Italian.
