Bilateral relations with European states are important for Switzerland for operational cooperation in the Schengen and Dublin areas as well as for joint discussion on the further development of European migration policy.
Switzerland’s neighbours (Germany, Italy, France, Austria, Liechtenstein) are important players in this cooperation. In addition, in the past years, certain countries on the external borders of the European Union that are subject to serious migratory pressure, such as Greece and Italy, have assumed increasing significance on Switzerland’s bilateral agenda.
The Migration framework credit of the second Swiss contribution is an important instrument to consolidate and deepen bilateral cooperation with these EU Member States.
