The Khartoum Process originated in the Task Force Mediterranean (TFM) set up by the European Council and is a joint initiative of the European and African Unions. It was launched on 28 November 2014 in Rome.
Objectives
The Khartoum Process seeks to establish an intensive dialogue on migration management, with the goal of enhancing cooperation between countries of origin, transit and destination through a number of specific projects. These projects strive to improve the protection of migrants and to combat people smuggling and human trafficking and should include development projects in cooperation with local stakeholders.
